The new Preschool Story Hour season begins Thursday,
August 22, at Paxton Carnegie Library.
Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are invited to bring preschool
children to Story Hour at 10am to hear stories, see the newest children’s
books, and do simple craft projects.
This is a great way to introduce your little one to the library and the
joy of reading, setting the stage for a lifetime of appreciation for
books. The stories are different each
week, so children may attend occasionally or every Thursday if they wish. (It’s kind of like a book club for the
under-5 set.) No registration is required for this free, drop-in program.
The library has news for grownups as well. Have you heard about Zinio? That’s the new program offering magazines
online, now available at Paxton Carnegie
Library! Here’s how to access Zinio and
see for yourself: Go to our blog at www.paxtonlibrary.blogspot.com. Click on “Search the Online Catalog,” as you
would when ordering a book. On the SHARE
page that comes up, you will see a new menu on the left side, listing
Resources. Choose Zinio , and there you will find nearly 100 popular magazines,
free to read, download, and even print. There
is no due date, there are no fees whatsoever; the magazines are yours to
keep! You may set up your free Zinio
account now with Illinois Heartland Library System, your own email address, and
your Paxton Carnegie Library barcode number.
Magazines can be downloaded and read on computers and devices of all
kinds. This will come in handy for those
times when you’re waiting in line anywhere in the world. Once downloaded, the magazines are yours to
keep, so you do not have to be connected to the internet to read them. Try it!
Along with many bestselling books this week, at Paxton
Carnegie Library we have new DVDs: Guilt
Trip, Parental Guidance, Safe haven, Quartet, A Good Day to Die Hard, Identity
Thief, Jack the Giant Killer, Ladies In Lavender, 42, Mud, and Admission. Parents and grandparents: Now that the kids are back in school, you
might get a chance to read a good book or even watch a movie. Stop by and see
what’s free at your library!
