December Library News

New Discussion Group Forming at the Library...
Are you hoping to receive a new Nook, Kindle, iPad, iPhone, laptop, or digital notebook soon?  Or are you still trying to figure out the device you got last year?  Let’s figure this out together!  A new technology discussion group is forming at the Paxton Carnegie Library, giving people a chance to talk about their tech issues, compare notes, and most important: learn how to download free ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines.  If you are interested in joining an informal tech discussion group, or if you have knowledge about digital devices you’d like to share, please call the library: 217-379-3431 and ask for Anne; or just send us an email at paxtonlibrary1@gmail.com. If there is enough community interest, we will seek out mentors and schedule a meeting date.

The next meeting of the Library Lego Club will be Monday, December 29, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.  This is a free, non-competitive activity on the last Monday of each month, for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. We share all the Legos and Duplos and build whatever we like! Pictures of the finished products are posted on the library Facebook page and on our blog: www.paxtonlibrary.blogspot.com.

Preschool Story Hour is still going strong at the library. Preschool-age children and their parents enjoy Story Hour every Thursday morning at 10 in the children’s library. Hear both classic and new stories for the very young, take part in a simple craft time, and check out your favorite read-to-me books on Thursday. The program room is also the book sale room. Stop by any time and browse for some bargains. Hardback books are a quarter, paperbacks are a dime, and magazines cost a nickel. If you buy some old books, we’ll have room for new ones in the New Year!

Holiday hours for the Paxton Carnegie Library are as follows:  Closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Closed the evening of New Year’s Eve and all day New Year’s Day.

November Lego Club Meeting!

Join us for Lego Club today (Monday, November 24,) from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.  This is a non-competitive activity for Kindergarten through 5th grade.   Younger siblings are welcome with a parent. Parents of children 5 and under are asked to remain in the library during Lego Club.
This club meets on the last Monday of each month, in the library basement program room.  Stop by after school and make something amazing! ... or make something mildly interesting... or stick two Lego bricks together and call it a day, we'll still be glad to see you!

Book Sale

Have you been waiting for a library book sale?  At the Paxton Carnegie Library, you don’t have to wait!  We have an ongoing book sale in the meeting room whenever the library is open.  Help us make room for new books by buying our old ones. Hardbacks are still just .25 cents each, paperbacks are a dime, magazines are a nickel, and movies are .50 cents.

New Lego Club

Are you ready for Lego Club?  Children in kindergarten through 5th grade (or so) are invited to join this new club, which meets from 3:30 to 4:30 on the last Monday of each month at the Paxton Carnegie Library.  This is a non-competitive, low-key program, just for fun.  Kids can build with Legos, hang out with other kids who like Legos, and maybe even check out some books while they’re here.  We’re starting out with just a few buckets of Legos and Duplos, so donations are always welcome.  Younger siblings may attend, with a parent.

Master Gardeners at Paxton Carnegie Library

The public is invited to enjoy a new gardening program at the Paxton Carnegie Library this spring.  Beginning May 14, area Master Gardeners will bring us an enlightening series for both experienced and beginner gardeners.   Mary Dickenson will present the first program, Annuals and Perennials, from 1 to 2pm on May 14th.  Everyone is welcome, and there is no charge to attend.  Next on June 4: “Container Gardens.”  This will be a hands-on workshop.  There is a $15 fee for materials, and participants will be able to take home their new creations.  On June 17, Cynthia Swanson will present the “Adaptive Gardening” program.   If there is sufficient interest in the series, another workshop may be added in August.  This series is a unique opportunity to learn from Master Gardeners.  Participants may attend one, two, or all three of the programs from 1 to 2pm on May 14, June 4, and June 17.  Please register by calling the Paxton Carnegie Library at 217-379-3431.
